A person who is an adult can be described as a human or other animal that has reached complete growth.The biological meaning of the word means animals that have reached sexual maturity, and therefore capable of reproduction. If used in conjunction with human beings, the term "adult" can have meanings that are related to legal or social ideas. In contrast to a person who is who is not considered to be an adult or "minor", the legal adult has attained majority, which makes them independent as well as responsible and competent. The term "major" can be used to define them. The age when a child becomes an adult legally is 18, however, the definition of legal maturity may differ based on the country or legal system as well as their psychological state.

Adulthood refers to the period in the human lifespan when a person has reached full maturity both in physical and mental development. The typical age for adulthood is age 21 or 20. Middle age, commencing at about 40 years and is followed by the onset of an ageing process that can last up to 60 years. As we grow older, there are three distinct stages: Early adulthood (18-30 years), Middle Adulthood (30-60 years) and late adulthood (60%-60 percent). When we enter early adulthood (20 to mid-40s) our physical growth is completed, though our weight and height may increase slightly. When we reach early adulthood, our physical abilities are at their highest levels. This includes muscle strength and reaction time.
