Katarina began ice-skating at age five. Her talents soon became evident as she enrolled into a school specifically designed for kids with a flair for sports in Karl-Marx-Stadt. At this school she met the coach Jutta Muler. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. It was her first appearance. Since then, her grace and beauty have captivated the interest of all. Olympic triumph at Sarajevo, in the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the women's silver medal for figure skating in a close-fought competition. The victory she won four years earlier was a lot closer. The free skate she took was not a success, however the gold medal was awarded to her because of the performances she made at both mandatory figures (short programme) and the compulsory figures. Witt is the only female figure skater to win this event two times in the same year since Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt had amazing success as an acting career, however she returned to her sport for competition at the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. The team finished seventh, but she wowed the crowd even though she didn't win the medal. Witt was elected into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in the year 1995.
